Bratton Womens Institute
Bratton WI is part of the Wiltshire Federation of WIs, and consequently the National Federation of WIs - the largest country wide organisation of women in the UK - giving women educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
Recent campaigns have included support for farmers over fair milk prices; ending violence against women; reduction of waste in the home and in manufacture of goods and food.
Membership is open to all women over 16. It costs £34.70 from January 2014 p.a. for which every member receives a monthly national magazine - W.I. Life - plus th Wiltshire Federation newsletter. Opportunites are available to visit Denman College near Oxford for further education on a variety of subjects, together with other, more local, activities on a regular basis. A full programme of events is also provided detailing talks and demonstrations here in Bratton.
We meet at 7.30 p.m. at the Church Institute every 1st Wednesday in each month, with the exception of August, when we have our annual outing, which could mean absolutely anything, anywhere!
The current programme, plus photographs, etc. are displayed in our notice board attached to the Jubilee Hall.
Other regular activities include:
- A book club which meets every six weeks in members' houses.
- Scottish Dancing held in the Jubilee Hall every third Wednesday in the month from 2.30 - 4.00 p.m.
